A Utah man allegedly recounted to authorities his record of shocking child sex abuse — including how he videotaped himself abusing a child at a Mormon church during funeral services.

Thomas Michael Wallin, 21, was booked Tuesday into the Salt Lake County Jail and faces multiple felony counts of sex abuse.

According to CBS affiliate KUTV, he is charged with three counts of felony sexual exploitation of a minor, and one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.

Investigators say they were led to Wallin after receiving a report that he was producing and distributing child porn at his home in South Jordan.

According to an arrest affidavit, investigators from the Department of Homeland Security received information that Wallin was producing and distributing child pornography from his home in South Jordan.

Wallin also admitted he abused a child in a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints meeting house while a funeral took place, The Sun reported.

He even filmed while he was abusing the child at the Mormon church, police said. The crime took place in December 2019, according to authorities.

Investigators have requested that Wallin remain in custody without bail.

He remains in custody at the Salt Lake County Jail, according to online court records.

It is not clear if Wallin has retained an attorney available to comment on the charges on his behalf.

According to the Deseret News, investigators say Wallin is a “danger to children” and should not be released from custody.

“Wallin has an extensive juvenile history of engaging in sexual contact with minors,” the affidavit stated.

“Wallin is believed to be danger to children and has admitted to speaking with another associate regarding kidnapping and rape of a child.”

A South Jordan man accused of manufacturing and distributing child pornography was arrested Tuesday after federal authorities served him with a search warrant.

It is not clear who the associate is or if that person is facing an investigation and potential charges.

In addition to the Mormon church sex abuse claim, Utah investigators said they received evidence Wallin was “manufacturing and distributing child pornography via the internet from his residence.”

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Wallin works as a security guard and has no disciplinary actions on his record.

Court records do not indicate if a hearing has been scheduled for Wallin. He is being held without bail.
